An Overview of Association of Professional Dog Trainers (APDT)

The Association of Professional Dog Trainers (APDT) is a professional organization of individual dog trainers who are focused on becoming better trainers through education.

The APDT was founded in 1993 by Ian Dunbar DVM, Ph.D., as a forum for trainers to connect with each other and to discuss topics of mutual interest. They have since become a member-driven organization producing educational conferences throughout the United States. Their annual conference has grown from 250 participants to 1,500.

Membership has developed at a similar rate to 6,000 members around the world. The association is a voice for professional dog trainers. They offer a one-of-a-kind opportunity for networking and sharing thoughts through conferences, the membership directory, newsletter and seminars.
